While wandering the rugged coastline near Newport, Oregon, I came across this lone seagull perched quietly among the dark, volcanic rocks. The contrast between the bird’s bright white feathers and the deep tones of the wet stones caught my eye immediately. There was something poetic in the simplicity of the scene a quiet moment of solitude amid the constant rhythm of the Pacific.

I shot this with my Nikon D7500, using the natural lighting of the overcast day to let the textures and tones come through without distraction. The rocks almost seemed monochromatic, making the seagull stand out like a sentinel watching over the shoreline.

These are the kinds of peaceful encounters I chase with my camera, unscripted, serene, and completely in tune with nature.
