Winter adventures always hold a special kind of magic, and my recent trip to Big Springs Sno-Park with a friend was no exception. Nestled in the Willamette National Forest, this hidden gem turned out to be the perfect place for a day of snowshoeing and landscape photography.
A Winter Wonderland Awaits
As soon as we arrived, we were greeted by towering trees draped in fresh snow, their branches heavy with winter’s embrace. The air was crisp, the kind that wakes you up instantly and reminds you that you’re alive. With our snowshoes strapped on and camera gear packed, we set off onto the quiet trails, ready to lose ourselves in nature.
The trail was untouched aside from a few animal tracks evidence of the local wildlife braving the cold. There’s something incredibly peaceful about trekking through fresh powder, the only sounds being the crunch of snow underfoot and the occasional creak of ice-laden branches above.

Capturing the Beauty of Winter
Of course, I couldn’t resist pulling out my camera at nearly every turn. Snow-covered landscapes have this ethereal quality that makes them irresistible to photograph. The contrast of dark evergreens against the stark white snow, the delicate frost clinging to pine needles, and the way the light danced through the trees it was all too perfect to pass up.
At one point, we stumbled upon a small clearing where the snow seemed to glow under the filtered sunlight. It was one of those moments that reminded me why I love photography being able to freeze a fleeting moment of nature’s beauty and share it with others.
The Joy of Snowshoeing
This was my first time snowshoeing in a while, and I’d forgotten just how much fun it is. It’s a workout, for sure, but in the best way possible. Unlike hiking in other seasons, where you have to navigate rocks and roots, snowshoeing lets you float over obstacles, making for a smoother and more immersive experience. Plus, there’s nothing quite like blazing your own trail through untouched snow it feels like an adventure straight out of a storybook.
A Perfect Winter Escape
As the day wrapped up, we stood for a moment, just taking in the stillness of the forest. No traffic noise, no distractions just the pure, unfiltered beauty of winter.
Big Springs Sno-Park turned out to be a new favorite winter spot, and I know I’ll be back before the season is over. Whether for more photography, a longer trek, or simply to soak in the beauty of the snow-covered wilderness, this place is one I won’t forget anytime soon.
If you’re looking for a winter adventure filled with stunning landscapes, peaceful trails, and a bit of a workout, I can’t recommend snowshoeing at Big Springs Sno-Park enough. Just be sure to bundle up, pack your camera, and get ready for a magical experience.
Until next time, stay wild and keep exploring!
