Week 3: Thurisaz (ᚦ) Protection and Conflict

“Fight your foes head-on and never flee, for flight brings shame, and death is ever near.” – Hávamál

Thurisaz is the rune of defense and conflict, symbolizing the force of giants (the þursar or Jötnar) in Norse mythology. This rune is associated with both destructive and protective powers. It represents a thorn, something small but sharp, capable of both wounding and defending.

Thurisaz teaches us about boundaries, protection, and the ability to face threats head-on. Like a thorn, we must be prepared to defend ourselves when necessary but be mindful of how we wield our power. Conflict is a natural part of life, and Thurisaz reminds us to face it with strength and wisdom. Reflection: How do you handle conflict in your life? Do you shy away from it or confront it with intention? How can you use your strength to defend what matters without causing unnecessary harm?
