The Enterprise being filmed at Howard A. Anderson studios.
The 11-foot model of the Enterprise was constructed at Volmer Jensen’s model shop before being transported to the Anderson studio in Hollywood for filming. Jensen had been an aviation colleague of Matt Jeffries and was the first person he called when it came time to bring his drawings to life.
Made for $3,000, the original model didn’t feature any electronics or lighting; those were added in 1965 before filming started for another $3,000. In 1966, the red domes on the nacelle were replace with the spinning lights that we now know and love.
