New Zealand Sea Monster Spotted on Google Maps?

There may be a large sea monster lurking in the waters of New Zealand’s Oke Bay, or so suggests a man named Pita Witehira. The engineer says that one day in early December while doing some researching on Google Earth for his holiday home, he discovered an unexplained wake (which is shown above and can also be viewed here) in the bay. The image was captured via satellite on January 30th, 2014 at around 11:30 a.m. Pita told Daily Mail Australia that the wake could’ve been left by a creature that was about 12 meters (39 feet) in size. He says that the Native Maori would call this creature a “Taniwha”, which, according to Maori mythology, are beings that live in deep pools in rivers, dark caves, or in the sea, especially in places with dangerous currents and giant waves.

I spotted it about a week ago.“ Pita said. ”We have some property near Oke Bay and I’m about to build a beach chalet up there. I zoomed down and found that. It’s way too wide for a shark and way to long. It’s got to have a lot of weight under the water to create that kind of drag.“ When compared to a wake produced by a motorized boat, it’s evident that the two are different as a boat’s wake typically leaves behind a white froth.

It seems as though every body of water is getting it’s own monster. Before you know it, families won’t be going down to the little lake to feed the ducks, instead they’ll be feeding the local lake monster that was probably given a quirky or ‘punny’ name. For now however, let’s worry about figuring out whether or not this is a real sea monster. While this wake certainly doesn’t look like most wakes produced by motor boats, that doesn’t necessarily mean this wake couldn’t have been made by an amphibious vehicle. Some have suggested the wake was made by someone on a jet ski. That’s definitely a possibility, but it’s hard to say for sure if that’s the identity behind this “sea monster”.

Personally, while I can’t officially rule out the possibility of this being some kind of unidentified sea creature, my gut is telling me that this wake was made by an amphibious vehicle. It’d like to hear your thoughts on this. Did Google Earth capture proof of a sea creature living in the waters of Oke Bay? Or is there a more conventional explanation for this seemingly unexplainable wake?
